Nick Craig

In 2014, Nick Craig co-authored with Scott Snook “From Purpose to Impact,” now featured in three of HBR’s 10 Must Reads — what Harvard Business Review calls its “definitive collections of classic ideas,” most recently HBR’s 10 Must Reads on Leading with Purpose (2025).

Across thousands of leaders they observed one persistent fact: fewer than 20% of leaders had a clear sense of their own individual purpose. A core element of what it means to be an effective leader when it matters most was missing. That finding shaped twenty years of work.

That work began with Harvard Business School’s Professor Bill George. Their collaboration from 2007 produced Finding Your True North: A Personal Guide (2008), and later The Discover Your True North Fieldbook (2015, with Bill George and Scott Snook), the companion to Bill George’s Discover Your True North, and the coursebook for the Authentic Leadership Development program at HBS, taught to MBA students and Fortune 100 senior executives.

Nick’s own book, Leading from Purpose (Hachette Books, 2018, foreword by Brené Brown), is where the methodology meets the leaders who found their purpose, and what happened when they led from it. Today, Core Leadership Institute has partnered with more than 25,000 leaders across 50+ organizations: LEGO® Group, Unilever, ING, DBS Bank, Bunnings, Heineken USA, West Point, Wharton, and dozens of others. CLI’s flagship methodology, Purpose to Impact®, received the 2019 EFMD Excellence in Practice Silver Award in Organisational Development, awarded jointly to CLI, ING, and London Business School. Nick also hosts the Leading From Purpose Podcast  series in which senior leaders from across CLI’s global network share how purpose shaped the decisions that defined their careers.
